Thank You Derek Alvez, Journalist-Writer, Photographer, Staten Island Advance for Media Coverage at the 2020 Black History Month: Celebrating Unsung Community Service Leaders event on Thursday, February 27, 2020!


This free community and cultural event was hosted by and in collaboration with the African American Community and JCC Beacon Program at I.S. 49, 101 Warren St, Staten Island, NY 10304 in celebration of Black History Month from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.


We appreciate you dedicating your time and service for media coverage to the full length of the Black History Month: Celebrating Unsung Community Service Leaders event to capture memoriable moments through amazing visual contents and thorough reporting in the Staten Island Advance.

Derek Alvez began his career at the Staten Island Advance in August 1984 as a Sports reporter for 31-plus years. Penned the :Man To Man" column from 1995-2003. Transferred to the "Visual Team" March 2016 ~ Multimedia Specialist.
