Thank you Historic Richmond Town for inviting me, along with my fellow speakers on Saturday, August 26, 2023 to honor Women's Equality Day and celebrate the anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote on August 26, 1920.
It was such an honor to be a part of the commemoration through the reading of Sojourner Truth's speech, Ain't I A Woman? and learn of other notable women such as Harriet Taylor Mill (Cassidy Deegan),
Francis Ellen Watkins Harper (Edwina Martin), and
Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Lorraine Danishewski) who participated in the fight for equality across New York State, and the experiences of everyday women who advocated for their rights from the home and hearth.
A huge THANK YOU to my family, Momma Fleshman, Aunt Rev Rena White and Mr. Meyers who came out to support!
A special thank you to Barbara Register, Owner of Mood Swings Vintage Things, Staten Island, NY 10304 for dressing me for the occasion!
