R.A.N Tip of The Week! Constipation and Hormones

To get an idea of how widespread constipation is, walk into a pharmacy and note how much aisle space is occupied by stool softeners, laxatives, and fiber products. It’s massive.

So, if you struggle with it, you are not alone.

In fact, for most women, it may come as a surprise that we should have a full elimination (and feel emptied) at least once a day. Twice or even three times is perfectly normal as well, provided the stool is well formed and is not a result of a semi-diarrhea.

Why is it important?

For two main reasons:

Constipation causes toxicity - instead of getting evacuated, toxins re-enter the body. This is especially troubling if you are working on reducing your heavy metal levels. (Yes, various chelation agents work but you need to evacuate!) 

Constipation causes hormones to re-enter the body - some of the hormones, when metabolized (and used by the cell), get expelled and should be released from the body. Same as toxins, “dirty” hormones cause a host of hormonal issues, including estrogen dominance (the leading cause of breast cancers, breast lumps, PMS, thyroid nodules, fibroids, etc).

In this post, I cover solutions to get regular again. It’s really important. I've yet to meet a constipated person who enjoys a vibrant health and good hormonal balance. 

Constipation when Traveling

I have heard complaints from a few people when traveling and no matter how much water they drink, they will get constipated for the first few days.

What is the solution? Pretty simple - eat more fiber rich foods, stay away from the carbs and exercise.  I personally find that the breads and pastas can cause you to be clogged and bloated.  As an avid jogger who eats pretty clean, I am happily regular.  I start my mornings with 16oz of warm to hot water and 1 fresh squeezed lemon.  This is a great way to naturally eliminate and detox your body.

Also, it has been suggested by Hormonal Balance Nutritionals that you take a pack of Magnesium Replenish and take a higher dose. At home, you should take 2 capsules (600mg) as a daily maintenance dose and while traveling, increase it to 4 capsules (1200mg) and then back off once you regain regular bowel movement.
