R.A.N Tip of The Week! Still a Kid at Heart

As Founder and C.E.O of Roc-A-Natural, Mother to Virgilio,II and Milan, Umi to Nahlani and Khari, Auntie Dossie to my nieces and nephews, Big Sis to my Brother (even though he is the oldest), Sissy to my Sisters, Flossy to my Mom and D to my friends, I am still a kid at heart.

Being a kid at heart is not a question of age, but more so a question of spirit. You can be a child by enjoying small things and being happy with almost anything.

Don't mistake being a kid at heart for immaturity. As adults, we learn to become more mature and responsible individuals. Ironically, I believe one of the biggest signs of maturity is choosing to be a kid at heart while still handling your business.

I recently spent time with my family in Pennsylvania to celebrate my sister Rona's 56th birthday.  I packed my sneakers because we were scheduled to play Vollyball, Kickball and Tug of War, but because we had to stop by another friend's birthday celebration(Happy Birthday Ron and Carol!) before Rona's celebration, we got off to a late start and ran out of time.  My nephew,  Zaiare invited me to join him on the swings in the yard.  The little girl in me happily obliged him. I had so much fun and feeling happy and carefree!

It truly warms my heart to interact with my grandchildren, young nieces and nephews and overall children who are carefree, happy, innocent nature, from which adults could stand to learn. I remember when I was a little kid, I played hopscotch, jumped Double Dutch, played Hand ball in front of my building, 67 Warren Street and played Kick-ball for hours. I found joy in doing these everyday activities without even thinking of them as forms of exercise.

I absolutely adore when a child smiles at me. My great niece, Lovely was all smiles at me while in her carriage as we both affectionately gazed at each other.  It's highly contagious and impossible for me not to smile back. Children smile because they are happy, as their lives are not complicated or filled with much responsibility.

The best thing about children is their love. They could care less about your flaws; they don't care what you look like, who you are, where you are from or what you do because their love is limitless.

"The law of love could be best understood and learned through little children"  Said Mahatma Gandhi

If you're still a kid at heart, you still have that spark within you, and you find joy in little things and everything life gives you!

"It's all about being in a natural state of mind"
